For all his faults, President Michael Sata was a very good judge of human character.
He had a very good perception of the people who surrounded him. Now we all know why he never left power with Vice President Guy Scott- who seems set to put this country on fire with his very divisive conduct.
We are also beginning to understan…d why Miles Sampa never moved from being a Deputy Minister. His baffling utterances are only out matched by his equally outlandish conduct which proves that he is a man of little deliberation.
We are wondering what the Supreme Court Judges will be making of his most recent utterances, that regardless of their decision over his matter, his name will be on the ballot box come the January Presidential elections.
In other words the Supreme Court ruling is inconsequential. He is a man on a mission and nothing will stop him, least of all the Judiciary. This, we assume means that in the event that the Supreme Court is negative, he will form or join a new party that will guarantee his presence on the ballot paper.
In essence it is pointless for the Supreme Court to sit unless it agrees with his position.
We are sure that his lawyers must be cringing because this attitude displays his disposition to the judiciary considering that one of the reasons why PF Chairman Inonge Wina has gone to court to pursue contempt charges against Sampa were his remarks to Radio Phoenix where he questioned the decision by Judge Mulenga to grant an injunction.
Impugning irregularity on the judiciary is unacceptable and at worst contemptuous.
We have said before and would certainly want to appeal to Mr. Sampa to be humble and show some humility, it will serve him well. Few Zambians will be impressed by his wild claims of an assassination attempt. Nobody would waste a bullet on him because his conduct is suicidal enough.
Humility is one of the reasons why Edgar Lungu is enjoying support. He has never carried himself in any pretentious manner. He has always been humble. He gave away power even when others would have fought for it. He has extended an olive branch even when others have continued to fight.
Greatness is not measured by the number of punches one can throw but by the amount of punishment one is able to take.
We advise Mr. Sampa to look at the last sentences of 1Corinthians 13:1-13 which says :
“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;
Suggesting as he does that he will form his own political party or endorse the available political parties with the UPND if he loses his appeal case in the Supreme Court over the PF presidency is a very bad strategy that will estrange reasonable people who would have given him support.
Coming at a time when all other members of the party have decided to rally behind one contender his statement sounds vain and therefore lacking in judgment
He is quoted as saying “I am student of the Michael Sata Institute of Politics and I have learnt to persevere. We will form our political party and form government, remember there is 2016 and 2021, we can still compete. My phone is very busy, my supporters are calling me all the time that they are upset that their choice is not being respected and they are telling me to form a new political party, all these are options on the table.”
Meanwhile he expects the Supreme Court to hear him!
