‘Uncaring’ parents irk YWCA

The Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) has expressed displeasure against the high number of parents neglecting their children, leading them to engage in illicit activities such as sexual and alcohol abuse.

Association executive director Patricia Ndhlovu said some parents were to be blame for not looking after their children, especially girl children that were vulnerable, hence getting involved in illicit activities.

“Some parents are to blame for not looking after girl children that are vulnerable and end up getting involved in illicit activities,” she said.

Ms Ndhlovu said the girl child under the age of 15 must be carefully monitored and taught by parents on the dangers of taking alcohol and the consequences of sexual activities.

“The girl child under the age of 15 must be carefully monitored and taught by parents on the dangers of taking alcohol and the consequences of  casual sexual activities,” she said.

Meanwhile Ms. Ndhlovu has called on local authorities to monitor the implementation of the law that restricts under-age children from consuming alcohol.

She  said that the law should check against the abuse of alcohol and sexual activities that result in defilement cases.

“We are calling on local authorities to monitor the implementation of the laws that restrict under-age children from consuming alcohol.

“The  law must check against abuse of alcohol and sexual activities by young people which result in defilement cases,” she said.
