Court sets date for Makembo, Kalenga Case

THE Lusaka High Court has set March 19, 2015 as the date for the hearing and determination the case in which National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) chairperson Mwamba Kalenga sued Zambia Soccer Fans Association (ZSFA) Pastor Peter Makembo for defamation.

According to a letter dated September 13, 2014, Kalenga’s lawyers GDC Chambers wrote to Makembo notifying him that Lusaka High Court had set a date for determination of their case.

“We refer to the above matter and humbly enclose herewith a true copy of the notice of hearing returnable on Thursday the 19th March, 2015 before the honourable Mrs Justice A. M. Sitali at 14:30,” the letter said.

This is in a matter in which Makembo allegedly said Kalenga was incompetent after he (Kalenga) dismissed two sports associations’ executives who are affiliated to the sports council.

After dismissing the officials, the Minister of Sports Chishimba Kambwili reversed Kalenga’s decision after finding the said associations with no cases to answer.

Kambwili’s decision made Makembo to accuse Kalenga of being incompetent and failing to consult before dismissing two associations.

Makembo also challenged Kalenga to step down from the position of sports council chairman after his decision was overruled by the minister of sports.
