SPONTANEOUS riots broke out in many parts of Lusaka last evening after it was announced that Patriotic Front (PF) acting president Guy Scott had unilaterally dismissed Defence and Justice Minister Edgar Lungu as party secretary general.
Scores of PF cadres took to the streets on Great East Road, Leopards Hill Road, National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) and Evelyn Hone College, burning tyres in protest at Dr Scott’s decision to fire Mr Lungu.
The PF cadres, who were mourning President Sata who died on Tuesday last week in London, thronged the streets immediately after the 19:00 hours ZNBC television news where the announcement on the firing of Mr Lungu was made.
The cadres at Belvedere Lodge and those at the Lusaka’s Showgrounds, the venues for the mourners, mobilized and marched into the streets denouncing Dr Scott and the cartel.
At Belvedere Lodge, the youths carried motor vehicle tyres and burnt them on Leopards Hill Road.
The Police who were called to keep vigil watched the unfolding events without taking any action.
At Evelyn Hone and NIPA, the students were dispersed by the Police who moved on the two compases.
