REA lights up Kalomo villages

The Rural Electrification Authority (REA) has lit up more than 36 schools using solar energy in Southern Province’s Kalomo district.

The supply of power to schools, rural health and business centres was implemented in conjunction with the World Bank under the increased access to electricity programme in 2012.

The project,  dubbed  Sustainable Solar Market Package Project (SSMP), is reported to be immensely contributing to the province’s social and economic development.

The authority says economic ventures such as farming and raring of chicken in villages using solar energy is among the many economic milestones being witnessed in the province, particularly in Kalomo district.
