CBU students run amok

COPPERBELT University students yesterday ran battles with armed police after they protested against the non-payment of their meal allowances.

The students who dubbed their protest ‘‘Jubilee mourning’’ clashed with the police but Copperbelt Police Commissioner Joyce Kasosa could not state how many could have been arrested as she had not been comprehensively briefed. But the students who have not been paid their meal allowances denounced Government for failing to address the many challenges the universities have been facing.

Ms Kasosa confirmed that the CBU students ran amok, throwing stones and blocking roads but were forced to retreat when a platoon of armed paramilitary police arrived at the campus.
