DEC arrests Lusaka woman over cocaine

A 29-year-old businesswoman of Lusaka has been arrested for trafficking in cocaine weighing 27.3 grammes.

Drug Enforcement Commission assistant public relations officer Chibu Tembo said Annie Musonda, 29, of Kalomo road in Chilenje Township has been arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission for trafficking in rocks of cocaine.

Mrs Tembo said the suspect was apprehended as she was about to transact along Kalomo road.

In a related but separate incident, Mrs Tembo said DEC in Lusaka arrested Webster Kalikhoka Muzeche, 32, a businessman of plot No.54 Makeni area for trafficking in granules of cocaine weighing 0.5 grammes.

In Southern Province, the commission also arrested a Malawian national for trafficking in cannabis weighing 6.1kg.

She said Prince Ndundambeza, 26, of Kasaka area in Kafue district has been arrested for trafficking in loose cannabis.

Mrs Tembo said Ndundambeza was apprehended at Kafue Bridge and has been on the watch list for supplying psychotropic substances in the area.

“Others arrested by the commission include Alfred Ziba, 82, a village headman of Efumbeni village in Chama district for trafficking in 2.3 kg of loose cannabis, Jackson Nyale, 35, a peasant farmer of Nyale farm in Lukanda Kapiri Mposhi for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 10.1 kg,” she said

Others  are Philbert Kaseki, 30, a peasant farmer of Kasenge village in Mwinilunga district for trafficking in 7.8 kg of loose cannabis and Bridget Kwiya, 28, of Itezshi-tezhi compound in Mumbwa district for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 1.7 kg,” she said.

And  a couple of Chavuma in North-Western Province has been arrested for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 700 kilogrammes.

Tembo identified the couple as Kalombo Muchinyi, 23, and his juvenile wife aged 17.

“Kalombo Muchinyi, 23, a bricklayer of Chiyeke area in Chavuma district has been arrested and jointly charged with his juvenile wife, 17, of the same abode for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 725 kg,” she said.

Mrs Tembo said in Luapula Province DEC arrested Godfrey Mpundu, 46, a peasant farmer of Munduli village in Samfya district for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 13.7 kg.
