A JEALOUSY husband of Mbala district has allegedly axed another man to death on suspicion he was having a sexual affair with his wife.
The man has been identified as Paul Sinkonde, 38, who is on the run and the police hav launched a manhunt for the suspect.
Police acting spokesperson Esther Katongo said in a press statement yesterday that Mr Sinkonde used a pounding stick and an axe to murder the man.
Ms Katongo said the incident happened on Tuesday between 19:00 and 20:00 hours in the suspect’s house which is two kilometers off Kavumbo road.
“The suspect sustained five deep cuts on the head, two deep cuts on the neck, a cut on his left ear and a broken neck. An axe and a pounding stick are suspected to have been used,” Ms Katongo said.
“After committing the offence the suspect escaped. We are requesting for members of the public with information about the whereabout of this man to report to the nearest police station.”
In another development, police in Mpika have arrested a man of Tazara compound for defiling a three year old niece.
Ms Katongo said the man was caught was caught in the act defiling the baby in unfinished house by some passersby.
“Initially, the suspect who was in the company of his young children got the baby from the mother on pretext that they were going for a walk and later defiled it,” Ms Katongo said.
“As he was defiling the baby, the child began crying and this alerted members of the public who rushed to the scene where they found the suspect defiling the baby and they apprehended him.”
Meanwhile four people have died while six others sustained injuries when a Toyota Hiace minibus registration number AKB 310 they were travelling in overturned.
Ms Katongo said the accident happened along Kalomo-Zimba road, about 15 kilometers south of Kalomo town around 10:35 hours.
The accident happened when an overloaded vehicle being driven by Clement Siamilandu, 34, of Kamunza compound in Choma careered off the road after a rear tyre burst.
She said three passengers died on the spot while the fourth one died on the way to Livingstone General Hospital while 12 other passengers were admitted to the same hospital.
“The bodies of the deceased are lying in Livingstone Hospital mortuary,” Ms Katongo said.
