Edgar Lungu plans Constitution talks

JUSTICE Minister Edgar Lungu said he will next week meet member of Grand Coalition on the People Driven Constitution to chart the way forward on the Constitution making process.

Mr Lungu said the move to meet with members of the Grand Coalition was arrived at on Monday after the meeting he had with Attorney General Musa Mwenye and Secretary to the Cabinet Roland Msiska.

The minister said he was hopeful that the meeting will resolve the Constitution making impasse between government and the Grand Coalition.

He said a number of issues needed to be explained to individuals and organisations calling for the quick enactment of the Constitution.

Mr Lungu pledged government’s commitment to having a new Constitution in place but maintained that the country has the functional Constitution in place and would not be rushed to release the draft Constitution as there were some cost implication to be considered.
