Patriotic Front Secretary General Wynter Kabimba has denied suspending Kasama Central member of Parliament (MP) Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba from the ruling party.
Mr Kabimba through his lawyers told Lusaka High Court Judge Nicola Sharpe Phiri that the Patriotic Front’s constitution and code of conduct does not empower provincial committees to suspend a senior member of the party such as Mr Mwamba.
He said it was only the PF central committee which had the powers and jurisdiction to suspend and expel a senior member of the party.
Mr Kabimba who is also Minister of Justice told the court that the only role that the party executives from provinces play was to recommend to the Central Committee for suspension when a party member does not adhere to the party’s rules and regulations.
Mr Mwamba has applied for an injunction to restrain the PF Central Committee from expelling him from the Party.
Judge Phiri has since reserved the ruling to grant Mr. Mwamba an injunction to restrain the PF from expelling the Kasama Central parliamentarian.
Mr Mwamba was suspended for bringing the name of the party into ridicule.
The decision to suspend Mr Mwamba was arrived at during the PF Northern Province committee meeting.
