A 31-year- old man of Manyinga district has died on the spot after being knocked down by a speeding vehicle in a hit and run accident on the Manyinga-Kabompo road.
NorthWestern Province deputy commissioner of Police Michael Nkaka confirmed the accident to ZANIS in Solwezi yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as David Kawina of Mandanji village in Senior chief Sikufele’s area.
Mr Nkaka said Mr Kawina who was a pedestrian was hit by unknown vehicle and died on the spot from severe head and body injuries.
He said the unknown culprit driver was currently on the run and police have since launched a manhunt.
In a related development, Police have recovered a decomposed body of a 23 –year- old man found floating in the Kifubwa river in Solwezi district with the help of fire brigage.
He said the deceased had been identified by a relative as Winston Bwalya who came visiting from Lukwesa village of Chief Kafwimbi’s area in Mwense district .
The deputy police commissioner said Mr Bwalya was reported missing from home on July 28 by his cousin Mary Kapaba. He said Mr Bwalya is suspected to have gone swimming because he was just found in an under wear.
Mr Nkaka said no foul play was suspected and the body has since been buried because of its decomposed state.
