Preparations to celebrate Zambia’s Golden Jubilee in Kawambwa district have intensified, says District Administrative Officer Mwita Kasengele.
Mr Kasengele said authorities in the district anticipated to celebrate 50 years of Zambia’s independence on October 24 in all satellite centers to enable many people to participate.
He said the Golden Jubilee was very important hence the need to extend the celebrations to other surrounding places as well.
Mr Kasengele was speaking in Kawambwa recently when he addressed a preparatory meeting on the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
He noted that for the commemoration to be successful there was need to fund raise in order to supplement government’s effort and enable people in rural areas celebrate it as well.
Meanwhile the committee to spearhead fundraising activities for the forthcoming golden jubilee celebrations has been formed in Kawambwa.
The committee was formed at a meeting of heads of government departments, non governmental organizations (NGOs) and the business community chaired by Mr Kasengele.
The committee consists of chairperson, Chibwe Kantu, a head teacher of Kawambwa technical secondary school while the secretary is Mr Robby Kapesa also a teacher of Kawambwa boys and ZANACO branch manager, a Mr Msumuko is the treasurer.
Other committee members selected are Mr Luke Mulenga, prisons officer in charge, Ms Lillian Ntalasha a Deputy head teacher of Chisheta primary school, Ms Agnes Twenda of AAH, Warrant Officer Kanyimba of 48 Marine Unit and MsTheresa Nsalani a teacher of St Mary’ s primary school.
And Mr Kasengele has called on committee members to be proactive in their operations to raise enough funds for the the celebrations. – ZANIS
