The Serenje magistrate court has fined two businessmen for ignoring its orders that their respective businesses close.
Before Magistrate Penstone Kalutwa Chiluba were Emmanuel Chilobwa and George Mukoma, both of Mukando junction of Chitambo District who were charged with two counts.
The first count was failure to comply with the closing order contrary to section 70(1) of the Public Act Cap 295 of the laws of Zambia.
The second count was that the duo were found selling food under insanitary condition contrary to section 7 as read with section 31(2)(a) of Food and Drugs of the Laws of Zambia.
Magistrate Chiluba fined Chilobwa K439.20 while Mukoma who runs Lesa Waluse was fined K439.00.
Passing judgment Magistrate Chiluba said the court would not relent to prosecute anyone found contravening the Public Health Act Cap 295 and the Food and Drugs Act Cap 303 of the Laws of Zambia.
In May, Chitambo Health Inspectors carried out a massive inspection of shops and bars to see to it that sanity was brought to normal and about ten premises were closed because of operating under insanitary condition.
And Chitambo acting District Medical Officer Uzima Chirwa said his office would work tirelessly to implement the Public Health Laws to safeguard the community in the district.
Dr Chirwa called on businessmen and women in the district not to take the law in their hands but to seek advice from health personal. -ZANIS
