Violence-free Mangango campaigns cheer UPND

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has said it is happy that the campaigns in Mangango constituency have been violence-free.

UPND vice-president for political affairs Canisius Banda said his political party was hopeful that all political parties including the ruling PF would strictly observe the electoral rules.

Dr Banda however said the UPND was happy that so far, no violence had been reported in Mangango and that it was the expectation of his party that political parties would continue canvassing for votes without intimidation and harassment.

He said the UPND was calling for violence-free campaigns in Mangango and that the environment of peace and respect should continue being observed.

“We are merely competing for governance but we are one people after elections,” Dr Banda said.

Dr Banda accused the PF of using government resources to conduct their political campaigns and has appealed to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to consider taking action against the ruling party.

Dr Banda said ECZ should ensure that the campaigns in Mangango should be conducted in free and fair political atmosphere so that the electorate could make their correct and informed choice when voting.

He said even if the playing field was not level, his party was confident that the people of Mangango constituency would not make another mistake of voting a political party that had proved beyond doubt that it was incompetent.

And the UPND has also said the Mangango constituency by-election would confirm the passion Zambians have to correct the mistake they made in 2011 for voting for the Patriotic Front (PF) which has allegedly become the worst government ever in the democratic his of the country.

Dr Banda said the people of Mangango just as citizens across the country were looking forward to change government because the PF had turned out be a deceptive, arrogant, violent and corrupt party in government.

He said the passion for Zambians to change government was being explained by the suffering they were going through with the prices of most of the basic commodities becoming prohibitive for most families.

Dr Banda explained that Zambians were aware of the mega promises the PF made while in the opposition and were angry that the ruling party had taken them for granted after voting for them.

He said the Mangango by-elections result would be a litmus test of the political mood in the country and that while the PF was struggling to buy votes from the electorate, the people had already made up their minds to try another political party to run the affairs of government.

Dr Banda said the Mangango by-election was only part of theprocess of removing the PF from government adding that had Zambians known what they know now about the PF, they would never have wasted their vote on the ruling party.

“The people of Mangango are looking forward to the polling day so that they can deliver the seat to the UPND and they will be doing so because they are greatly disappointed with the PF. The people of Mangango like most Zambians across the country are looking for immediate change and their passion for change is being explained by the suffering and economic and political hardships they are experiencing under the current leadership. The cost of living has continued to rise and citizens are feeling cheated because they are aware of the mega promises the PF made,” Dr Banda said.
