Riots rock Ndola’s Kaloko

RESIDENTS of Kaloko area in Ndola yesterday run amok damaging property after word went round that police had arrested a named businessman in connection with the abduction of children, killing them and removing their private parts.

The irate residents, who wanted to beat up the named businessman, damaged property among them Kaloko Police post where they suspected the suspect was detained after his arrest.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Joyce Kasosa confirmed the riot, but denied that police had arrested a person in connection with the abduction of children, killing them and removing of their private parts, saying the police had not received such a report.

“I have not yet received information, but I can confirm that the riot started when a rumour in Kakolo township went round that police had arrested a person in connection with the abduction of children, killing them and removing their private parts.

“The riot resulted in the damage to property which included the Kaloko Police Post where the residents suspected that the named businessman was detained after being arrested,’ Ms Kasosa said.

She said the fact that the police had not received such a report meant that it was not even investigating a case of such nature.

“The thing is that, as police, we have not received a report of children being abducted, we have not received a report of children being killed, we have not received a report of children being killed and their private parts being removed. So if we have not received such reports, then we are not even investigating such a case, ” she said.
