Lusaka police have arrested four people in Misisi Township in connection with the murder of a young man whose private parts were found on them.
Police public relations office Charity Munganga confirmed the murder of the young man only known as Haggai whose body was discovered yesterday by passersby around 06:00 hours in a ditch along the railway line between Misisi and Royal Temple Church International.
Ms Munganga said the body had the throat completely cut open and a deep cut on the right cheek
“I can confirm that we have arrested four people in connection with Haggai’s murder The suspects have been found with the male private parts of the deceased aged between 30 and 35 years,” she said.
She said the police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the motive behind the killing and the removal of parts from the body.
Haggai is suspected to have been murdered between June 15 and 16 at unknown time.
“The body had a deep cut on the right cheek, throat completely cut off and private parts removed. We are yet to establish the motive behind the killing,” she said.
Ms Munganga said that the body of the deceased was lying in the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary while the private parts have been taken for expert opinion at the same hospital.
Zambia has recorded increased reports of suspected ritual killings with different body parts being severed off from victims.
