President Michael Sata has accused Daily Nation newspaper proprietor Richard Sakala of wanting to tarnish his image with the intention of hounding him (Mr Sata) out of office.
“This is typical of Sakala.
He wants me out of office.” He told Lusaka High Court Judge Florence Lengalenga.
The President also said that he thought Mr Sakala was dead. The shocking remark came after Mr Sata’s lawyer Mr Bonaventure Mutale asked the Head of State whether the newspaper attempted to contact him on the alleged defamatory article. “He did not contact me.
In fact I thought Sakala was dead,” said Mr Sata.
But last week, Mr Sata called Daily Nation Newspaper and spoke to Mr Sakala over the Paramount Chief Chitimukulu chieftainship.
Mr Sata has taken the Nation to Court over a story that he was protecting defunct Zambain Airways directors Mutembo Nchito (DPP), Fred M’membe, owner of Post Newspaper and Nchima Nchito – who owe DBZ K14 billion.
