ZAF deputy commander dies in plane crash

Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Deputy Commander Major General Muliokela Muliokela has died in a plane crash near York Farm in Lusaka West.

The ZAF deputy commander with another ZAF officer Col Brian Mweene were flying in a trainer aircraft when it crashed around Lusaka West area yesterday during routine training.  Minister of Defence Edgar Lungu confirmed the accident at a media briefing and stated that the two ZAF officials were on a check flight between 12:30 and 13:30 hours.

Mr Lungu said a board of inquiry would be constituted to establish the cause of the accident. The Defence minister said that the findings of the investigations would be submitted to the high command and authorities. Earlier this year, two people were killed in a ZAF plane crash among them an officer cadet during a training flight near Kazungula in Livingstone.
