Five people yesterday died on the spot in Rufunsa District after the car they were traveling in rammed into a stationary DAF truck, Police spokesperson Charity Chanda Munganga confirmed the accident
Ms Munganga explained that the driver of the Vitz car registration number ALH 4511 lost control after he tried to overtake a Toyota Hilux registration number ABT 7317 which had indicated that it was turning a few meters away.
Soon after the Vitz tried to overtake the Toyota Hilux , the driver lost control and hit into the same Hilux and rolled five times before it finally rammed into a stationary DAF truck, killing all on board.
Ms. Munganga said that a passenger in a Toyota Hilux was injured and rushed to Rufunsa Rural Health Centre for treatment.
She said that most of Zambia’s road traffic accidents in Zambia were as a result of human error, adding that there was need for an increased road traffic sensitization if accidents were to be reduced.
“For instance the driver of the Vitz should have waited for the Toyota Hilux to turn and the accident would have been avoided. But because of human error, five lives have been lost and we are yet to identify them. It is a sad day for Zambia,” she said.
