Eight people have died in two separate accidents in 48 hours along the Nakonde-Kasama-Mpika road, among them four children aged below 18 years.
Police Spokesperson Charity Chanda revealed in a statement that on Monday, three people died on the spot while eight others sustained injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned due to a tyre burst.
Chanda also confirmed that five people died on Sunday when a Land Cruiser, unregistered with IT No.9642 over turned due to excessive speeding along the Nakonde–Kasama road enroute to Mungwi.
Chanda said in the Monday incident, eight people were injured including the 22 year old driver, Francis Mwila who was also admitted to Kasama General Hospital.
“The driver Mwila aged 22 driving a Toyota Glanvia Reg. No. ALL 6212 was traveling along Kasama-Mpika Road when the vehicle overturned due to a tyre burst.
She identified the deceased as Chizongo Kelvin, 19 and two juveniles aged between 10 and 13.
And the five people who died on Sunday were traveling from Nakonde to Mungwi when their vehicle, a Land cruise overturned due to excessive speeding along Kasama road.
