Kabimba is Bisa-Mumbi

Bembas should not be dragged into the Patriotic Front succession wrangles which are purely a Bisa internal struggle.

The opposition against Kabimba according to Edward Mumbi was national as evidenced by the resolutions from ten provinces and some of his fiercest ditractors in cabinet and central committee were Bisa and not Bemba.

According to Edward Mumbi, the former special assistant to UPND president Hakainde Hichilema, Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general Wynter Kabimba was not Bemba but Bisa from Mpika contrary to the statement by finance minister Alexander Chikwanda suggesting that the justice minister was from the Bemba kingdom.

Mumbi has added that President Michael Sata was also Bisa from Mpika district in the new Muchinga Province.

Mumbi said it was therefore not right to drag the Bembas into the PF succession wrangles that have divided the party.

He explained that being Bemba speaking did not qualify one to be Bemba which was why Kabimba should be disciplined on the basis of what breaches he committed.

Mumbi said President Michael Sata could  be finding it difficult to get rid of Kabimba even after numerous petitions from members of the central committee and the general membership of the party because of his consanguinity.

He said it was ironical that Chikwanda insinuated that that Kabimba was Bemba when it was a known fact that the embattled justice minister was Bisa.

He stated that the continued open accusations by Kabimba that a corrupt Bemba clique had orchestrated plans to have him (Kabimba) expelled from the PF were dangerous and that if not handled with care, could cause serious tribal conflicts.

Mumbi said Bemba was a decent tribe and that people like Kabimba should stop using the tribe  for his political survival in the PF.

Mumbi said it was politically misleading that the ruling PF had been taken over by a corrupt Bemba clique because no such clique existed

“Wynter Kabimba is not Bemba but Bisa from Mpika. What we know is that he is Bisa and comes from Mpika where the President hails from. Probably that is why President Sata has found it difficult to discipline Kabimba to stop the wrangles in the ruling party. The continued open slander by Kabimba a corrupt Bemba clique was against him should be handled with care,” Mumbi said.

He said Kabimba and those supporting him should stop using Bemba to prop up their political fortunes.

Mumbi said he was aware that a lot of people were ready to associate themselves with Bemba adding that it was unfortunate that that those who were pushing their personal agenda in the PF were using tribe to gain political sympathy and mileage.

Mr. Edward Mumbi is just throwing thorny fragments into the sea of PF matrix of confusing. I do not know where Mr. Mumbi himself originates to breathe such ignorant assertions. The facts are as follows:

    (a) Mr. Sata is NEITHER Bemba NOR Bisa. Sata’s parents hailed from Tanzania to settle at Mpika Boma. The so called Chitulika Village is one of the shanty compound within the bounds of Mpika Minicipal (not District) Council. Chitulika is an urban settlement just like Misisi in Lusaka and Mulenga in Kitwe.

    (b) Sata’s parents socialised very well with Mama Betty Kaunda’s parents who also originated from Chief Jumbe of the Kunda to settle in Mpika.

    (c) Sata’s parents also interacted very well with Chief Chikwanda whose palace is at the foot. hills of Danger Hill on the Chinsali Road. This interaction could have given rise to inter-marriages that could have fostered a relationship between Sata and Alexander Chikwanda.

    (d) Despite his Tanzanian origin, Sata does qualify as a Zambian citizen because he was a resident of Northern Rhodesia up to midnight of 23rd October 1964. This factor also applies to KK and many Zambians who are being labelled as foreigners.

    (e) Sata has exploited Simmon Kapwepwe’s popularity to embed himself with the Bemba in order to hijak Kapwepwe’s UPP popularity to consolidate PF whose foundation is vested with the Bembas. The people of Luapula are merely being used as a appendages of UPP or now PF merely on the grounds of Bemba as a unifying LANGUAGE.

    (f) Sata’s misunderstanding of taxonomy of the Bembas vs Bisa’s led him to believe that he can use Presidential powers to impose a Bisa (from Chibesakunda clan) to become a Chitimukulu.

The points raised are meant to correct Mumbi’s wrong assertion that Sata and Kabimba (whose father is a Sala) are Bisas.

This writer knows the Bisa well, who pay their allegiance to Senior Chief Kopa of the Bisa people and whose territory extend into Chinsali and eastwards through Chief Nabwalya and across the Luangwa River into Eastern Province in Chiefs Chitungulu and Mwanya’s areas. Hence Ba Sata is neither Bisa nor Bemba.
