Supreme Court stops Dora, Sililo, Mwale from recontesting

THE Judiciary, in a press statement released in Lusaka yesterday, stated that candidates whose election has been nullified by the Supreme Court for corrupt or illegal practices cannot take part in the by-elections arising from such nullification of their seats.
This position of the Supreme Court effectively nullifies the election of MMD’s Reuben Mtolo Phiri as Chipata Central member of parliament. And it also effectively nullifies the election of UPND’s Misheck Mutelo as member of parliament for Lukulu West.
However, it is not clear whether there would be by- elections or the candidate who came second automatically assumes the position of member of parliament for the affected constituencies.
This position of Supreme Court also effectively bars Dora Siliya, Maxwell Mwale and Hastings Sililo from filing in nominations today.
