IF an election were held in Kitwe today, the ruling Patriotic Front would lose because of the rampant corruption being perpetrated by its councillors through illegal sale of land, says PF Ipusukilo ward Councillor Francis ‘Kasusu’ Chipasha.
He said the rampant corruption being perpetrated by the councillors through illegal sale of land was making the ruling PF so unpopular that if an election were held in Kitwe, the ruling party would lose.
Chipasha, who is a veteran politician popularly known for his ‘Shemuneni’ slogan, was speaking yesterday at the Kitwe Civic Centre during a meeting with Copperbelt minister Mwenya Musenge who equally expressed concern at the rampant illegal allocation of plots involving the 28 PF councillors at the council.
The councillor said the illegal sale of plots by the PF councilors was making the party and President Michael Sata unpopular, adding that it was shameful that councillors involved in the illegal sale of land were free and not facing the law.
“This council is rotten because of the rampant corruption being perpetrated by councillors and council officers through illegal sale of land. I’m a member of the PF, a strong member of PF, but I don’t have a plot because I don’t have money to corrupt people. The corrupt councillors are embarrassing President Sata and the PF.
“You ministers, you know which councillors are involved in the illegal allocation of land, but you just watch them, instead of ensuring that these corrupt people are arrested. I can tell you that if an election were to be held in Kitwe today, PF will lose because of the corrupt councillors. We have the opposition and ordinary people, they are watching what is happening,” Chipasha said.
And speaking earlier, Musenge said he had decided to meet councillors at the Kitwe council because of the numerous reports his office had been receiving about councillors getting involved in the illegal sale of land.
The provincial head, who is Kitwe’s Chimwemwe constituency member of parliament, said the involvement of PF councillors in the illegal sale of land was an embarrassment to the ruling party and that whoever was mentioned in the illegal sale of land should stop as such a one would face the wrath of the law.
He said most councillors had been linked to the illegal sale of land with some of them, like Mindolo ward councillor Faustino Mwape being held in police custody over the illegal sale of land.
“My office has even received reports that the area councillor was one time arrested for illegal sale of land. This is not good because we are embarrassing the party. Let us behave like leaders or else we may face the wrath of the law if we continue engaging in the illegal sale of land,” Musenge said.
