GBM condemns presidential campaigns

Defence Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) says that it is illogical for Patriotic Front (PF) members, its senior officials and any other party official to start campaigning for the presidency two years into office.

He said that President Sata was still eligible to contest the next election, adding that he was still the president for the PF and   government.

Mr. Mwamba who was in Western Province yesterday told PF cadres who welcomed him at the Mongu Airstrip that the PF had an agenda to develop  the country and it was too early for people to start campaigning for presidency.

He said that there was no one in the party who was ready to take over from President Michael Sata.

“We are concerned as a government that our members, have started campaigning for the presidency two years into power.  Party officials senior or junior should realize that it is illogical for any Patriotic Front (PF) member to start campaigning for the Presidency two years after the PF came into power.

President Sata is still the president of the Party and the country at large. He has not informed anyone that he is stepping down and he has a long way to go,” said Mr. Mwamba.

Mr. Mwamba said that there was no one ready to take over the presidency of the PF from President Sata, adding that the party had an agenda to deliver development and reduce high levels of poverty the people of Zambia were facing especially those  in rural areas.

Mr. Mwamba said all well meaning and loyal PF members should put aside their presidential ambitions and help President Sata develop the country, adding that the reports of having presidential aspiring candidates was not doing the party any good.

“As I said President Sata has not yet identified and groomed his successor because the time is not yet ripe for that. So why should we force a plan which is not there? We shall kill this party you the people of Zambia sacrificed so much to deliver it into power,” he said.

Mr. Mwamba said President Sata deserved to rule for another five years because he was still strong and his vision was to see a better Zambia for all, adding that President Sata had suffered so much being in the opposition for ten years.
