Opposition political parties have described the victory by the UPND and the MMD against the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) in the Thursday Parliamentary by-election as confirmation that Zambians had rejected dictatorship, vengeance, retribution, violence, hatred, arrogance and impunity.
The humiliating defeat the PF has suffered at the hands of the MMD and UPND in Chipata, Kafulafuta and Solwezi East constituencies was testimony that democracy shall always triumph over dictatorship.
UPND’s Hakainde Hichilema has appealed to the opposition political parties in the country to begin working together saying a genuine united opposition political front would easily save Zambia from being completely destroyed and plundered by the ruling PF regime.
Mr Hichilema said the rejection of the ruling party by the electorate in the three constituencies was a clear sign that the country was ready for real change that would truly improve the economic and political environment for the good of Zambians.
Mr Hichilema said the people of Zambia have realized that they had voted for hatred, intolerance, victimization, retribution and rampant corruption and that they had decided to pass a vote of no confidence in the PF.
Mr Hichilema said Zambians have sent the message that they were not ready to continue with the current regime by voting for the opposition in three constituencies across the country.
Mr Hichilema said public media houses should desist from dividing the country and sowing seeds of hatred among citizens adding that he was disappointed that government controlled media houses had been propagating messages that his party was regional.
“The victory by the opposition in Chipata, Kafulafuta and Solwezi East is confirmation that democracy has triumphed over dictatorship. The people have rejected the PF because of its hatred, intolerance, retribution and corruption. Zambians have refused to be taken back to the one party state which is what the PF are so determined to achieve and that is why we need to get genuinely united as the opposition political parties,” Mr Hichilema said.
And the MMD’s Copperbelt publicity secretary Yotam Mutayachalo said the opposition should seriously begin working together with a common purpose of removing the PF from power in 2016 because the ruling party had caused a lot of misery to Zambians in the short time they had been in power.
Mr Mutayachalo said the opposition political parties should not think that it would be easy to dislodge the PF from power in their fragmented state and that it was time they put aside all their differences and got united for a common purpose.
Alliance for a Better Zambia (ABZ) leader Father Frank Bwalya has toasted the victory by the UPND and MMD declaring that the PF Bufi had slapped the ruling party right in its face.
Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi said the defeat by the PF in three constituencies was an indication that citizens had rejected the arrogance and impunity the ruling party had been using to govern the country.
The Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) has described the victory by the UPND and the MMD as victory against bad governance and dictatorship.
ADD secretary general Rodgers Simuchoba said the victory by the two opposition political [parties ad demonstrated that a united front had the power to redeem Zambians from the intolerance and hatred the PF had subjected Zambians to since their ascendance to power.
