Two UPND officials petition Chief Justice, get arrested

United Party for National Development (UPND) deputy secretary general Kachunga Simusamba along with the party’s Lusaka Province information and publicity chairman Alex Mulenga were yesterday arrested for petitioning Acting Chief Justice Chibesakunda to leave her office because her continued stay at the helm of the judiciary was a constitutional illegality.
Two senior UPND officials picked up in Lusaka this morning when they petitioned the Justice Chibesakunda at the Supreme Court and since have been released.
Mr Simusamba and Mr Mulenga were charged with conduct likely to cause the breach of the peace but the charges were later dropped after officers said they “got instructions from above.”
