Opposition Alliance for Better Zambia (ABZ) President Frank Bwalya has said the Patriotic Front (PF) government cannot produce a people-driven constitution because it does not respect human rights and democracy in its governance system.
Fr Bwalya said the dictatorial tendencies exhibited by the PF government in less than two years of its governance, was a clear indication that it was a dictatorship government that could not accommodate divergent views and produce a people-driven republican constitution. Fr Bwalya said early this week during Yar FM Face to Face Radio programme in Kitwe that the PF government would not produce a people-driven constitution because most of the issues that Zambians wanted to be included the constitution like 50+1, the vice-president to be the running mate, ministers to be appointed outside parliament and others had already been rejected by the PF government.
“This constitution making thing is just waste of time because the PF government will not include the issues that Zambians want. Issues like the 50+1, the vice-president to be the running mate, ministers to be appointed outside parliament and others which do not favor the PF government will not be included in the constitiution.
“If these issues are included in the constitution, you will come and tell me that Fr Bwalya, you told us lies, the issues you said will not be included in the constitution, have been included, ” Fr Bwalya said.
Fr Bwalya also said it was sad that the PF government under President Michael Sata had shown the worst dictatorial tendencies where they do not respect human rights and divergent views in the country.
He said the PF government should realize that human rights are not given by human beings like Mr Sata, but they are God-given and so every human being was entitled to human rights.
“Every human being is entitled to human rights because human rights are God-given, they are not given by Mr Sata. So it is wrong for Mr Sata to deny any individual human rights. Human beings have the rights to freedom of expression and so it is wrong for PF to victimize people who express divergent views,” He said.
Fr Bwaya also urged Zambians who were supporting the PF government to ditch the PF and join ABZ because it was the party of the future, adding that youths should not allow themselves to be used by old politicians but should look forward and join ABZ.
He said youths have been used by old politicians for a long time and it was now time for them to refuse to be used by old selfish, greedy and dictatorial politicians who were tired.
“The symbol of the PF is the boat, while the symbol of the ABZ is the pot.
The boat is used to cross the river and when you cross the river, you get out of the boat and start looking for a pot where you can cook food to eat.
“So you use the pot to cook nshima or any other food. So I think Zambians used the boat and reached where they wanted to go and so they should get out of the boat and look for a pot where they can cook food,” He said.
