Power Dynamos midfielder and playmaker Mukuka Mulenga is still an injury concern ahead of Zambia’s 2013 Cosafa Cup quarterfinal clash against Mozambique on July 14 at Nkana stadium in Kitwe.
The reigning Zambian footballer of the year sustained the injury during Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat to archrivals Nkana in an MTN Super Division Week 14 match at Nkana stadium in Kitwe.
“He is off training today. He has a bruised right ankle. Tomorrow (today) he is likely to start light training then we will see by Wednesday how he does with his recovery.” team doctor Joseph Kabungo said.
Mukuka is part of the 22-member Zambia squad selected by Coach Herve Renard to represent the country at the 2013 Cosafa Cup that Zambia is hosting from July 6 to 20.
The Power midfielder is Chipolopolo’s key player in midfield after earlier deputising for injured Rainford Kalaba during Chipolopolo’s 2014 World Cup Group D qualifying matches last month against Lesotho and Sudan respectively.
Coach Herve Renard, his assistants Patrice Beaumelle and Masautso Mwale yesterday took the players through their paces at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) before leaving for the Copperbelt.
The three goalkeepers Danny Munya, Davy Kaumbwa and Joshua Titima had a separate training session with goalkeepers’ trainer Davies Phiri.
The squad which went into camp in Lusaka on July 4 yesterday shifted to Ndola to continue their preparations for their last eight clash against Mozambique this weekend.
The Chipolopolo Boys are expected to move to Kitwe on July 10 where they will play Mozambique at Nkana Stadium.
Zambia have a bye from the preliminary group stages together with Bafana Bafana, Malawi, Angola, Mozambique and defending champions Zimbabwe.
