United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema yesterday escaped death when PF thugs led by area MP Sylvia Masebo raided the funeral house in Kampasa village baying for the blood of the opposition leader, as he attended the funeral of two residents who were shot dead by Zambia National Service officers.
And speaking soon after the attack Mr Hichilema wondered why President Sata has not condemned the violence and killings that had characterised the state of affairs in the nation.
But Ms Masebo threatened the Residents in Kampasa who were in the funeral house against associating with the UPND saying that her constituency was very big and she would wash her hands of them and give her help to those who embraced the PF.
Meanwhile, Mr Hichilema challenged Mr Sata to come out in the open and tell the nation why he was watching innocent Zambians were being killed.
He said this after more than 30 PF thugs attacked him and his entourage at a funeral house in Kampasa.
“These people were led by Chongwe MP Sylvia Masebo and Lusaka district chairpersons Goodson Banda and were armed with all sorts of weapons. One of them almost hit me at the back with a heavy weapon as I was taking to the surviving victim who had been discharged prematurely from hospital before he was fine but thank God I turned and confronted him.
“His idea was to kill me and I was saved by God but they also attacked journalists from Muvi TV and also robbed them of their money and other accessories. This behaviour by the PF is shameful because we all know that this government is blood thirsty and we have been vindicated when we said the PF would turn this country into a militia country,” said Hichilema.
He said while they were visiting the families, Chongwe MP Sylvia Masebo appeared on the scene and was later followed by Goodson Banda PF Lusaka district chairperson with thugs and immediately attacked Mr William Banda who was in the company of the UPND leader.
The thugs upon realising that Mr Banda had been whisked away by Mr Hichilema then started throwing stones and smashed one of the vehicles for the UPND leader.
The PF thugs also attacked the Muvi TV crew and harassed a reporter by the name of Njenje Chizu who was in the UPND entourage.
The opposition leader said all this started when the UPND decided to take a Mr Derrick Nyirongo to a private clinic after being who was released by Levy Mwanawasa hospital following the Friday shooting incident.
Mr Hichilema said the PF did not come to power to rule but to kill people and has since challenged Zambians to rise up and defend democracy.
“We must all cry for our beloved country. Why would Masebo bring thugs to attack us? These people are heartless people, my heart bleeds and I wonder why they are killing people like animals,” he said.
He said the incident was a clear indication that the PF had ran out of capabilities and resorted to killing people.
The opposition leader said he has since reported the matter to Woodlands Police Station.
