President Rupiah Banda was conspicuously absent from the 50th anniversary celebrations in Addis Ababa.
Not that he was not invited.
An invitation was sent by the AU to the Zambian Government, but somehow a decision was made to ensure that he did not travel to attend and not for the first time either.
His colleague former Malawian President Bakili Muluzi who is equally facing trial in the Malawi High Court on US $11million graft case was allowed to travel.
Not us and not especially our Phd specialists.
We had to find every possible excuse to ensure that Mr. Banda did not travel.
Never mind that Zambia was at the centre of the epoch making event when the Organization of African Unity(OAU) was in metamorphosis into the African Union in 2001.
It happened during the reign of President Frederick Chiluba, who we ensured did not travel to attend treatment in the United Kingdom because he was a flight risk- until his situation deteriorated, then he could travel to South Africa.
Behind all the scheming are the same names. The same people and the same modus operandi.
Indeed How many outstanding Zambians have gone to their early graves because thieves, scoundrels and crooks have used the power of the media to propagate vile and hateful vitriol that has been so hurtful as to truncate their illustrious lives?
These are victims of the poisoned pen, men and women exposed to a manipulated persecution who had no means of answering back to the power of media to propagate. They suffered irreparable harm and injustice and eventually succumbed because they were overwhelmed by the savage attacks that went beyond the call of professionalism.
That is why our crusade; pursuing justice and equity with integrity will not be diverted by misguided and puerile diatribe from those who benefit from corruption, patronage and abuse of authority.
To the dead we owe the truth.
That is why we shall remain committed to the truth. To the highest degree of professional competence and integrity. We have promised and continue to put our paper at the disposal of the victims of executive manipulation.
We are at the disposal of those who feel aggrieved, that any form of authority has been abused against them.
We search out the poor, disadvantaged and victims of greed and avarice to whom redress is too expensive, dangerous and often almost impossible because of the powers ranged against them.
We give voice to the voiceless, to those whose causes might appear remote and un-attainable.
In short our mission is to stand for justice fair play and equity.
We know that those who parade themselves as paragons of virtue are in reality not much more than crooks for the bible says.
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?
