Patriotic Front thugs and vigilantes yesterday went on rampage beating up Journalists and MMD cadres without police intervention.
The PF vigilantes were unhappy that Dr Nevers Mumba was enroute to visit Kanyama and decided to capture and hold captive the advance team which included die hard youth leaders Bowman Lusambo and Scorpion Kadobi at Soweto market.
The duo have since obtained a police medical report and vowed to pursue the thugs that beat them up.
Lusambo who was forced to issue a statement supporting the removal of subsidies said “I did this to save myself because there was a gun and machetes as I spoke. They could have chopped off my head”
Mr Lusambo said he was assaulted by PF vigilantes lead by Kennedy Kamba who caught up with the opposition youth leader and pounced on him with all sorts of weapons including a gun and machetes.
He told the Daily Nation that the thugs used weapons to attack him when he was in the company of reporters from about five media houses on their way to Kanyama compound where MMD leader Dr. Nevers Mumba was expected to visit party ward leaders.
Mr Lusambo was in the company of six reporters from five media houses when they were attacked.
He said Mr Kamba had a gun when he attacked him while the others had Pangas and other weapons.
And one reporter from Joy FM was seriously assaulted by the vigilantes and Mr Lusambo has since reported the matter to Lusaka Central police.
Mr Lusambo said the PF youths claimed that he was attacked because he had criticised the PF government on every move.
“I was with the reporters six Reporters, two from the Post, Daily Mail, ZNBC, Joy FM, Hot FM and we were going as an advance party to Kanyama where President Mumba was supposed to visit the ward leaders.
“I was attacked behind Soweto Market and forced to apologise for what they claimed sour taste against Mr Sata and the PF. The apology I made does not hold any water because I did so to save my life. These thugs were armed with Pangas and if I did not do it they would chopped my head,” Lusambo said. He said the police officers have since assured him that they would take up the matter and ensure that the law takes it course.Mr Lusambo said as a citizen of this country he would exercise his rights and make sure that the law takes its course.Yesterday, two Muvi TV Reporters were assaulted by PF thugs in Lusaka West when they went to cover reports that some PF thugs had encroached on a private property and demarcated plots to sell.
