Bus operators in Lusaka have agreed to increase bus fares by KR1 on all routes following government’s decision to hike fuel pump prices on Monday.
Lusaka Bus Operators Committee chairperson Ishmael Kankara announced the increment yesterday after a meeting which agreed to adjust bus fares upwards.
“It was agreed overwhelmingly to increase the bus fares in Lusaka as the operators agreed that the increment was inevitable and a necessity with the new fuel prices,” he said.
Mr. Kankara explained that as Capital Commuters Limited, also known as Flash Buses, they will display charts of new fares inside their vehicles by today for the benefit of the commuters
Transport Minister Christopher Yaluma on Tuesday announced fuel pump price increment by an average KR1.61 effective Wednesday midnight, which has received mixed reactions mostly condemnation across all industries especially the transport sector which has a broad-spectrum.
