Deported priest returns

DEPORTED Roman Catholic priest Fr. Viateur Banyangandora whose deportation was recently revoked by government has returned to Zambia.

Fr. Banyangandora arrived at KennethKaundaInternationalAirport around 12:00 yesterday and was welcomed by Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) Secretary General Father George Lungu and other leaders of the Catholic Church from EasternProvince.

He however, could not give interviews and it was not clear whether he would be posted back to Lundazi  where he was operating from before his unceremonious deportation by Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu.

Fr. Banyangandora, a Rwandese Priest who was working under the EasternProvince diocese was deported by the PF government on grounds that his sermons in Church were inciting the people of Zambia to rise against the government.

He was forced back to Rwanda in August after he reportedly delivered a sermon in which he said the “poor were becoming poorer, while the rich were becoming richer.”
